Department of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Department was established at JNCT in the year 2003 and is also one of the biggest and prestigious departments of the institute. Excellent facilities in terms of equipment and staff are available to prepare students as professional Mechanical Engineers with the focus on innovation analysis and development of technologies. The faculty members of the department have technical expertise in various streams like thermal engineering, I.C. Engine, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration, Industrial Design, CIM etc. Our faculties are erudite teachers who are constantly engaged in undertaking research work of original nature and subsequent publications. Many of the members of the faculty have earned to their credit quite a number of praiseworthy research papers published in the national and international journals of repute. The department has established an Energy Park at JNCT, Bhopal Campus in collaboration with the Department of Electricals & Electronics Engineering of JNCT, Bhopal. It has conducted many workshops, Conferences and National Seminars.

Educational Objectives

There are ample opportunities available for candidates who possess an engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering. The graduates can work in Sectors like Product design, Research and development, Manufacturing, Design machines & System management. After completing the course graduates would be able to solve industry’s technological problems. B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) courses shape students to be expert engineering professionals, innovators or entrepreneurs who will be taking care of technology development, technology deployment, or engineering system implementation in industry. They can opt for higher studies in engineering or management. Also build up their career in teaching or research work.

Duration – 4 Years

Course Details

There are ample opportunities available for candidates who possess an engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering. The graduates can work in Sectors like Product design, Research and development, Manufacturing, Design machines & System management.

Course Objectives

After completing the course from Mechanical Engineering one can derive its breadth from the need to design and manufacture everything from small individual parts and devices. The objective of mechanical engineer is to take a product from an idea to the marketplace. He/she needs to understand the forces and the thermal environment that a product, its parts, or its subsystems will encounter; to design them for functionality, aesthetics, and the ability to withstand the forces and the thermal environment they will be subjected to; and to determine the best way to manufacture them and ensure they will operate without failure. Perhaps the one skill that is the mechanical engineer’s exclusive domain is the ability to analyze and design objects and systems with motion. Mechanical engineers play a central role in such industries as automotive (from the car chassis to its every subsystem—engine, transmission, sensors); aerospace (airplanes, aircraft engines, control systems for airplanes and spacecraft); biotechnology (implants, prosthetic devices, fluidic systems for pharmaceutical industries); computers and electronics (disk drives, printers, cooling systems, semiconductor tools); micro-electro-mechanical systems, or MEMS (sensors, actuators, micro-power generation); energy conversion (gas turbines, wind turbines, solar energy, fuel cells); environmental control (HVAC, air-conditioning, refrigeration, compressors); automation (robots, data and image acquisition, recognition, control); manufacturing (machining, machine tools, proto-typing, micro-fabrication).Mechanical engineering work is highly skilled and involves computer-aided engineering (CAE), computer-aided-design  and computer-aided-manufacturing.

Scope of Employment

Professional Engineer specialized in Mechanical Engineering gets placed in leading Mechanical companies like Kirloskar, L&T, Mahindra and Mahindra, Tata Motors, Godrej, Crompton Greaves, Honeywell, along with other Software and core companies. Graduates can also choose to work in the public sector industries like BHEL, NTPC, National Instruments, DRDO and other Government Organizations.
